Case Study: Staff Training Increases Factory Floor Space By 33%

Problem: A high quality Steel Manufacturing company needed to provide training to their staff so they could acquire their certificate 4 in competitive manufacturing. One of the core focuses of the training was implementing 5S procedures, which relates to housekeeping, maintaining a tidy workspace and developing better storage systems. This had been a problem in the company for some time and needed to be addressed.

Solution: As an accredited training provider Lester was engaged by a Registered Training Organisation to provide the training and help the employees get certified. Lester developed and delivered the training to a number of staff members and provided them with practical assignment that related to their actual work environment.

Results: After providing the employees with one such assignment he returned the next week to see what they had produced. The results were astonishing. The employees had taken on board and applied the lessons taught by Lester. Over the course of the week they had developed new storage systems, housekeeping procedures and scheduled regular reviews. In just one week the new systems had increased factory floor space by over 1/3. Which saved the company a huge amount of money as they had been looking into buying another shed, which was now not needed. The new storage system also meant that materials were never left out in the rain, which reduced wastage and improved profits.
