Case Study: $8k In Energy Savings In 30 Minutes

Problem: A potential client wanted to grow their business but weren’t sure where to start. They contacted me for a “Free Sounding Board Meeting” and I met the business owner at their factory. Whilst we were walking around the factory discussing the business goals and current situation I noticed there were many large, old lights that I knew would be using large amounts of energy. As I normally do I explained to the potential client that before trying to grow the business it is a great idea to identify the current wastage to reduce costs and streamline the business. In this particular instance I suggested we start with the power bill.

Solution: When I looked over the quarterly power bill it seemed excessive for a factory this size. I explained to the business owner that I wanted to have a good friend who is a business energy saving specialist come and audit his company to see where they could make some savings. He agreed. The energy savings specialist came in and changed the old “power hungry lights” for new “low energy” lighting. He also reviewed the power bill and found that they were on the wrong tariff and were getting charged too much (something very few business owners ever check). When completed he provided the business owner with a list of energy saving recommendations that were simple to implement but had never been thought of before.

Result:

  • Simply identifying that the company was on the wrong energy tariff instantly saved them over $2k per quarter.
  • The new lighting and other energy saving strategies would slash even more of their power bill.
  • This extra money could then be used to grow the company without any added costs.
  • From our initial 30 minute “Free Sounding Board Meeting” this client saved well over $8,000/year on power.
